About

I'm Devin, a product designer based in Portland.

I'm currently design lead at Planeteria, a web development agency focused on civic and institutional clients — municipal governments, transit agencies, retirement systems.

I lead design on client projects and on the agency's own software products. A lot of my recent work has been building the systems underneath the design work — component libraries, file architecture, process documentation, team training. The kind of infrastructure that makes everyone's work a little easier.

Background

I came to tech from costume design for film and television, looking to take my design thinking into deeper, more complex territory. Turns out my experience is more transferable than I expected. Costume design isn't just aesthetic — it's systems thinking. You're breaking down scripts, collaborating across departments, and designing for multiple stakeholders at once: the actor, stunt double, director, camera and ultimately the audience.
Product design, like costuming, requires taste, an understanding of how people actually behave, and the ability to navigate constraints.

Outside of Work

I knit sweaters, sew teddy bears, and hand build ceramics. On a quiet afternoon you'll find me in an art gallery.
